More Than $18 Million in Grants and Loans to Iowa from USDA


WASHINGTON- Senator Chuck Grassley today said that the U.S. Department of Agriculture Office of Rural Development awarded six grants totaling $346,940 and two loans totaling $18,067,561 to Iowa through the Community Facilities Loan and Grant Program.



“These funds will help improve the facilities and services at these fire departments and hospitals,” Grassley said.



USDA will distribute the funds as shown below.



•Larrabee Community Fire Association will receive a $189,000 grant to purchase a pumper truck



•Ringgold County Hospital in Mount Ayr will receive a $53,900 grant to purchase hemodialysis units and accessories



•Ringgold County Hospital in Mount Ayr will receive a $46,750 grant to expand the parking lot



•Ringgold County Hospital in Mount Ayr will receive a $28,220 grant to purchase defibrillators and accessories



•Pisgah will receive a $24,750 grant to purchase a grass fire truck



•The Sherrill Fire Protection Association will receive a $67,561 loan to purchase a pumper truck



•Sumner Community Club, Community Memorial Hospital will receive a $18,000,000 loan to construct a replacement hospital



•The Woodburn Fire Department will receive a $4,320 grant to purchase radios



According to the Department of Agriculture, the Community Facilities Loan and Grant program provides grants, loans and loan guarantees to assist in the development of essential community facilities in rural areas and towns of up to 20,000 in population.



Each year, thousands of local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals and state agencies apply for competitive grants and loans from the federal government.  The funding is then awarded based on each local organization or individual’s ability to meet criteria set by the federal entity administering the funds.
