More Than $2 Million to Iowa from FEMA


  

            WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley said today that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency, or FEMA, has awarded five Preparedness Grants totaling $2,027,680 to Iowa.

 

“These funds will be used to help strengthen our nation’s ability to help protect ourselves in case of disaster or emergency,” Grassley said. “

 

FEMA distributes Preparedness Grant funds through federal grant programs to help America with the ability to prevent, protect, respond and recover from terrorist attacks, major disasters or other emergencies.

The Buffer Zone Protection Program helps increase preparedness capabilities of jurisdictions responsible for safeguarding critical infrastructure sites and key resource assets, such as chemical facilities and nuclear power plants, through planning and equipment acquisition.

 

The Driver’s License Security Grant Program helps prevent terrorism, reduces fraud, improves the reliability and accuracy of personal identification documents that states and territories issue.

 

The Intercity Bus Security Grant Program helps assist operators of fixed-route intercity and charter bus services to support security plans, facility security upgrades and vehicle and driver protection.

 

The Interoperable Emergency Communications Grant Program helps provide planning, training, exercises, and equipment to states, territories, and local and tribal governments to carry out initiatives identified in Statewide Communication Interoperability Plans, and improve interoperable emergency communications for responding to natural disasters and acts of terrorism.

 

FEMA will distribute the funds as shown below.

 

v  Burlington Stage Lines in Burlington will receive $132,675 through the Intercity Bus Security Grant Program.

v  Iowa will receive $410,885 through the Interoperable Emergency Communications Grant Program.

v  Iowa will receive $833,717 through the Driver’s License Security Grant Program.

v  Iowa will receive $600,000 through the Buffer Zone Protection Program.

v  Windstar Lines, Inc. will receive $50,803 through the Intercity Bus Security Grant Program.
