More Than $2.1 Million in Loans and Grants to Fenton

WASHINGTON- Senator Chuck Grassley today said that the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Office of Rural Development has awarded a loan and a grant totaling $2,124,300 to Fenton through a competitive process in the Water and Waste Disposal Loan and Grant program.

“This funding will help provide important water and wastewater infrastructure to Fenton,” Grassley said.

Fenton will use the money to help construct a wastewater collection and treatment system to benefit approximately 187 customers in Fenton which does not have a sewer.  Kossuth County was declared a disaster area for 2008 flooding.  The loan will be for 40 years at 2.625 percent interest.

The Water and Waste Disposal Loan and Grant program provides funding to develop water and waste disposal, including solid waste disposal and storm drainage, systems in rural areas and towns with a population not in excess of 10,000.

Each year, thousands of local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals and state agencies apply for competitive grants and loans from the federal government.  The funding is then awarded based on each local organization or individual’s ability to meet criteria set by the federal entity.
