More Than $2.7 Million for Iowa

WASHINGTON—Senator Chuck Grassley today announced that the Department of Transportation's Federal Highway Administration has awarded seven grants totaling $2,711,920 to the Iowa Department of Transportation.

"These funds will help Iowa communities improve safety, accessibility and efficiency on our highways," Grassley said.

The U.S. Department of Transportation will distribute the funds as shown below.

·         Clinton will receive $444,600 to help reconstruct a portion of existing 19th Avenue in need of improvement and construct an extension of 19th Avenue to connect to the Mill Creek Parkway.  This project should improve the efficiency of traffic in the area, reduce transportation impacts on the environment, reduce the need for costly future investments by increasing the use of existing investments, and increase efficiency of access to jobs, services and centers of trade by providing a more direct access to the Mississippi River bridge and northern downtown.

·         Council Bluffs will receive $222,300 to help reconstruct 24th Street from I-80 to 23rd Avenue to accommodate traffic volumes, improve safety, and provide alternate routes for I-80 traffic.

·         Guthrie County will receive $355,680 to help refurbish 22 miles of back country trails located at Whiterock Conservancy to provide a safe, environmentally sustainable, and educational recreation destination in west-central Iowa.

·         Iowa Department of Transportation will receive $400,000 to help replace the Broadway Viaduct in Pottawattamie County with a new structure that will be 12-span, 1537 foot long, 80 foot wide using Prestressed Concrete Bulb-T Girders.

·         Iowa Department of Transportation will receive $400,140 to help replace the US 34 Missouri River Bridge between Mills County and Sarpy County, Nebraska.  The new bridge and approach roadways will be four-lane facilities with full access control.

·         Mason City will receive $444,600 to help repair the Delaware Street bridge between 5th and 3rd Street NE which provides access to downtown and to the Music Man Square tourist attraction.

·         Muscatine will receive $444,600 to help pay for an environmental study and design development for the reconstruction and enhancement of Mississippi Drive.  The project should improve pedestrian safety and accessibility, reduce damage from periodic flooding, modernize the transportation system, and enhance environmental quality and linkages between the Central Business District and the Muscatine Riverfront.
