WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley today said that the U.S. Department of Education has awarded a $1,390,660 grant to Marshalltown Community School District through the Safe School/Healthy Students Grants Program.
"These funds will help Marshalltown Community School District create an environment with greater focus on health, safety, and drug and alcohol prevention for students," Grassley said.
The Marshalltown Community School District will use the money to serve 5,100 students in ten schools throughout the district.
The Safe School/Healthy Students Grants Program helps provide students, schools and communities with enhanced comprehensive educational mental health, social services, law enforcement, and, as appropriate, juvenile justice system services that promote healthy child development and prevent violence as well as alcohol and other drug abuse.
