Nearly $4 Million in Grants and Loans to Iowa from USDA


WASHINGTON- Chuck Grassley today said that the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Office of Rural Development awarded grants and loans totaling $3,975,145 to Iowa through the Community Facilities Loan and Grant Program.



“These funds will help improve the facilities and services at the Corning Community Center and Van Buren County Hospital,” Grassley said.



USDA will distribute the funds as shown below.



•Corning receives a $4,145 grant to help purchase and install new replacement heating and air conditioning systems for the Corning Community Center.

•Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua receives a $100,000 grant and a $3,871,000 loan to help expand and rehabilitate the existing hospital including relocating and expanding the dietary department, redesigning the existing clinic space, expanding the cardiac rehabilitation program and other updates throughout the hospital. The loan will be for 40 years at four percent interest.



The Community Facilities Loan and Grant program provides grants, loans and loan guarantees to assist in the development of essential community facilities in rural areas and towns of up to 20,000 in population.



Each year, thousands of local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals and state agencies apply for competitive grants and loans from the federal government.  The funding is then awarded based on each local organization or individual’s ability to meet criteria set by the federal entity.
