WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley announced today that the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration has awarded two grants totaling $7,201,115 to airports in Clinton and Newton.
“This funding is intended to increase the safety and efficiency of these airports, as well as help provide important economic development opportunities in these communities,” Grassley said.
The funds will be distributed as follows:
• Clinton Municipal Airport will receive $4,427,115 for runway rehabilitation
• Newton Municipal Airport will receive $2,774,000 for runway, taxiway, and taxiway t-hangar access rehabilitation
Each year, thousands of local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals and state agencies apply for competitive grants from the federal government. The funding is then awarded based on each local organization or individual’s ability to meet criteria set by the federal entity.
