Here is information about Senator Grassley’s schedule this week. The Senate is in session.
Senator Grassley is scheduled to meet with Iowans in Washington from One Voice Against Cancer, the Iowa Center for Assisted Living, the Alliance of Specialty Medicine, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, the Iowa Soybean Association, Vets4Energy, the American Association of School Administrators.
Senator Grassley will meet with Iowa families visiting Washington from Norwalk, Dubuque, Adel, Glenwood, LeClaire, Cedar Rapids, Anamosa, Iowa City, Bettendorf, Underwood, and Urbandale.
Senator Grassley will be a guest on public affairs programs hosted by Sally Hart on KCII Radio in Washington, Theresa Rose on KILJ Radio in Mount Pleasant, and Jim Turbes on KWBG Radio in Boone.
On Monday, July 8, at 2 p.m. (ET), Senator Grassley will meet with James Comey, the President’s nominee to serve a 10-year term as Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
On Monday, July 8, at 3:15 p.m. (ET), Senator Grassley will receive the First Focus Champion for Children Award from the First Focus Campaign for Children, a national bipartisan children’s advocacy organization. This is the third year that Senator Grassley has been recognized by First Focus Campaign for Children. The awards are used to recognize members of Congress working to make children and families a national priority. Senator Grassley is a legislative leader on child welfare policy, including adoption and foster care, as a senior member of the Senate Finance Committee.
On Tuesday, July 9, at 10 a.m. (ET), Senator Grassley will participate in a Judiciary Committee hearing to consider James Comey’s nomination to be Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Senator Grassley is Ranking Member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, which is responsible for legislative policy and oversight of the FBI.
On Wednesday, July 10, at 10 a.m. (ET), Senator Grassley will participate in a Finance Committee hearing on “Repealing the SGR and the Path Forward: A View from CMS.”
On Wednesday, July 10, at 10 a.m. (ET), Senator Grassley will participate in a Judiciary Committee hearing to consider the nominations of Patricia Ann Millett to be United States Circuit Judge for the District of Columbia Circuit, Gregory Howard Woods to be United States District Judge for the Southern District of New York, Elizabeth A. Wolford to be United States District Judge for the Western District of New York, and Debra M. Brown to be United States District Judge for the Northern District of Mississippi.
On Wednesday, July 10, at 2:30 p.m. (ET), Senator Grassley will participate in an Agriculture Committee hearing on “Smithfield and Beyond: Examining Foreign Purchases of American Food Companies.” Senator Grassley has led efforts in Congress to keep agricultural markets competitive for market participants and consumers. He’s raised questions about the purchase of Smithfield Foods by Shuanghui International with regard to food and national security, anti-trust concerns, and maintenance of a competitive marketplace for independent livestock producers.
On Thursday, July 11, at 11 a.m. (ET), Senator Grassley will participate in the weekly executive business meeting of the Senate Judiciary Committee. The Committee may consider the nominations of B. Todd Jones to be Director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Stuart F. Delery to be the Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Division, Todd M. Hughes to be United States Circuit Judge for the Federal Circuit, Colin Stirling Bruce to be United States District Judge for the Central District of Illinois, Sara Lee Ellis to be United States District Judge for the Northern District of Illinois, Andrea R. Wood to be United States District Judge for the Northern District of Illinois, and Madeline Hughes Haikala to be United States District Judge for the Northern District of Alabama.
On Thursday, July 11, at 3 p.m. (ET), Senator Grassley will meet with Sam Brinton of Perry, who will be in Washington with a Nuclear Engineering Student Delegation.
