Young Iowans interested in government and politics should consider applying for an internship in my office this summer.  Interning in a congressional office allows for a wide range of learning experience and exposure for students on Capitol Hill. It is a good way for college-age students and new graduates to learn more about the legislative branch of the federal government while gaining valuable experience.

Students in all areas of study who are interested in learning more about how representative government works are encouraged to apply.  Interns will be placed in one of three departments:  administrative, legislative or communications.  In my office, interns are given real responsibilities and are taught skills that can be taken with them back to school or into the working world.  A firsthand account of an internship with my office can be read here.

During the summer, to make this opportunity available to more Iowans, I offer two, six-week sessions.  This year, the first session will run from May 27 to July 3 and the second session will run from July 7 to Aug. 15.  Internships are available in my Washington, D.C., office as well as my offices in Cedar Rapids, Council Bluffs, Davenport, Des Moines, Sioux City and Waterloo.

Applications for both summer sessions are due March 15 and are available on my website and in my offices in Iowa.  Due to security-related delays in postal mail delivery to U.S. Senate office buildings, internship applications should be emailed to intern_applications@grassley.senate.gov or faxed to 202-224-5136.  For additional information, email intern_applications@grassley.senate.gov or call my office at 202-224-3744.
