$119,145 to Iowa from U.S. Department of Justice


            WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley today announced that the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs has released two grants totaling $119,145 to Iowa through the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program. 

 

          "These funds will help law enforcement in Dubuque and Webster Counties increase efficiency and reduce crime in the community," Grassley said.

 

            The U.S. Department of Justice will distribute the funds as shown below to help the recipients purchase equipment, supplies and information systems to assist in the prevention and control of crime and to improve the criminal justice system.

 

·        Dubuque will receive $87,467. The Dubuque County Sheriff's Office will use $11,384 to help purchase a boat with a motor and trailer. The Dubuque Police Department will use $76,083 to help purchase special equipment and clothing in order to be prepared to respond to emergency situations, help provide overtime funds for instructors, help provide funds for supplies and materials for the Citizens Police Academy, help purchase one marked patrol vehicle and accessories for use by the Community Oriented Policing three-person traffic safety team, help purchase equipment for the Criminal Investigation Division, and help urchase a tracking device unit and accompanying software for covert operations by the Criminal Investigation Division.

·        Webster County will receive $31,678. The Fort Dodge Police Department will use $15,839 to help replace aged police cruiser light bars. The Webster County Sheriff's Office will use $15,839 to help purchase radar units, mobile radios, and a digital camera.

 

The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program allows states and local governments to support a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime and improve the criminal justice system.
