$68,800 to Iowa from U.S. Department of Justice


            WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley today announced that the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs has released two grants totaling $68,800 to Iowa through the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program. 

 

          "These funds will help law enforcement in Clinton and Marshall Counties increase efficiency and reduce crime in the community," Grassley said.

 

            The U.S. Department of Justice will distribute the funds as shown below to help the recipients purchase equipment, supplies and information systems to assist in the prevention and control of crime and to improve the criminal justice system.

 

·        Clinton will receive $35,072 to replace and install a new digital storage system with audio, video and digital records and supplement a staff member's salary to help oversee the award.

·        Marshalltown will receive $33,728 and divide the money equally with the county  to help support technology upgrades and improve interoperability across the county. Marshalltown will purchase portable radios and a computerized target system for the police department. Marshall County will purchase a mobile/cellular evidence seizure system and mobile data technology for the sheriff's department.

 

The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program allows states and local governments to support a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime and improve the criminal justice system.
