$260,413 to University of Northern Iowa

WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley today announced that the U.S. Department of Education has awarded a $260,413 grant to the University of Northern Iowa through the Combined Priority Personnel Development Program.

UNI will use the funds to prepare 68 trainees in a performance based early childhood special education program, to become highly qualified teachers to educate the country’s youngest and most challenged citizens.

“Area children should benefit from the learning opportunities this funding makes possible,” Grassley said.

According to the U.S. Department of Education, the Combined Priority Personnel Development Program assists states in meeting their responsibility to provide personnel to serve children with disabilities.

Each year, thousands of local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals and state agencies apply for competitive grants and loans from the federal government.  The funding is then awarded based on each local organization or individual’s ability to meet criteria set by the federal entity administering the funds.
