$311,250 to the University of Iowa

WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley today said that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded a $311,250 competitive grant to the University of Iowa.

The University of Iowa will use the money from the National Cancer Institute for a cancer treatment research project entitled, “R1P1 Cleavage by Caspase-8 is Essential for TRAIL-induced NF-kB Activation.”

Each year, thousands of local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals and state agencies apply for competitive grants from the federal government.  The funding is then awarded based on each local organization or individual’s ability to meet criteria set by the federal entity.
