$50,825 to the University of Iowa

WASHINGTON – Chuck Grassley today said that the U.S. Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division has awarded $50,825 to the University of Iowa.

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, the University of Iowa Center for Human rights, the University of Iowa Labor Center and the Nebraska Appleseed Center for Law in the Public Interest will collaboratively undertake an educational campaign on the non-discrimination rights of foreign born workers, primarily targeting workers and secondarily targeting employers in the industries of meatpacking and construction in Iowa and Nebraska.

Each year, thousands of local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals and state agencies apply for competitive grants from the federal government.  The funding is then awarded based on each local organization or individual’s ability to meet criteria set by the federal entity.
