WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley announced today that Iowa State University received $828,150 from the U.S. Department of Commerce's National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration.
"These funds will allow Iowa State University to build on their previous research to help improve safety and minimize damage by better predicting extreme wind events," Grassley said.
Iowa State University will use the money to help pay for research that should enhance the understanding of surface winds in extreme wind events such as hurricanes, tornadoes and microbursts for more accurate prediction of their damaging effects on the built environment and mobile vehicles with the purpose of mitigating damage and improving public safety.
