Grassley: $150,000 in Brownfields grants from EPA

WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley announced today that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has awarded $150,000 in Brownfields grants to the Hazardous Materials Training and Research Institute at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids.

“These funds will help assess and clean up industrial areas that aren’t currently being utilized and, in turn, communities can work to turn waste sites into productive work sites,” Grassley said.

The Brownfields program provides information, training, tools and technical assistance necessary to support brownfields assessment, cleanup and revitalization of former industrial and commercial sites and change them from problem properties into productive assets to the community.
