WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley today announced that the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs has released $82,849 in federal funds to the Iowa Governor’s Office of Drug Control Policy through the fiscal 2008 Project Safe Neighborhoods Program.
“These funds will help authorities continue to work against the violence brought to Iowa communities by gangs and drugs,” Grassley said.
According to the Justice Department, the Iowa Governor’s Office of Drug Control Policy will use the funds to reduce gun crime and violence, increase gang suppression activity and continue the screening of all gun crime and firearms related cases for possible federal prosecution in Cedar Rapids, Black Hawk County/Waterloo and Woodbury County/Sioux City.
The federal Project Safe Neighborhoods Program helps local law enforcement programs nationwide reduce gun crimes.
