Grassley: More Than $1.8 Million to Iowa from USDA


 


 

WASHINGTON- Senator Chuck Grassley today announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Office of Rural Development has awarded grants and loans totaling $1,877,000 to Iowa through the Community Facility Direct Loan Program and the Water and Waste Disposal Direct Loan and Grant Program.
 
“These funds will help rural Iowa get the necessary facilities and water distribution that is needed,” Grassley said.
 
The Community Facility Loan Program provides grants to assist in the development of essential community facilities in rural areas and towns of up to 20,000 in population. 
           
The Water and Waste Disposal Grant Program provides grants to reduce water and waste disposal costs to a reasonable level for users of the system in rural areas and towns with a population of 10,000 or less. Grants may be made up to 75 percent of eligible project costs.
 
The Water and Waste Disposal Loan Program provides loans to develop water and waste disposal systems in rural areas and towns with a population of up to 10,000.
 
The U.S. Department of Agriculture, Office of Rural Development has awarded funds to facilitate various projects, as described below.
 
·      The Regional Utility Service Systems Commission in Fairfield will receive a $10,000 grant through the Water and Waste Disposal Grant Program to help construct a sewer collection system and a treatment system for the 66 users in Harper and an $88,000 grant through the Water and Waste Disposal Grant Program to help construct a sewer collection system and a treatment system for the 136 users in Keswick.
·      The Rotary Club of Eagle Grove Home in Eagle Grove will receive a $1 million loan through the Community Facilities Direct Loan Program to help pay for a front entrance addition, remodel the facility and to provide administrative updates to the care center.
 
·      Sherrill will receive a $532,000 loan at 2.75 percent interest for 40 years and a $247,000 grant through the Water and Waste Disposal Loan and Grant Program to help upgrade and replace portions of the wastewater treatment facilities.
