WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley today said that the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs has released $2,221,695 in federal funds to Des Moines Community College and the Iowa Department of Public Health. The funding was included in the fiscal 2008 appropriations process.
“These funds will help provide substance abuse support for those being rehabilitated in Iowa’s jail system as well provide resources to criminal justice students, current law enforcement and the public to prevent cyber crime,” Grassley said.
The U.S. Department of Justice has released funds as described below.
v Des Moines Community College in Ankeny will receive $1,667,960 to help establish an Electronic Crime Institute which will provide digital forensics education and training to criminal justice students, law enforcement professionals and the legal community. The Electronic Crime Institute will also develop, produce and disseminate content to educate the public about cybercrime, including identity theft, fraud and exploitation.
v Iowa Department of Public Health in Des Moines will receive $553,735 to help support the Iowa Jail-Based Substance Abuse Treatment Project which provides in-jail and out-patient substance abuse and criminal thinking treatment services for nonviolent offenders in Polk, Scott and Story Counties to reduce the rates of relapse and recidivism for offenders who begin substance abuse treatment in the county jails.
