Grassley: Nearly $2 million to Iowa from U.S. Department of Education


WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley announced today that the U.S. Department of Education has awarded grants totaling $1,890,588 to six Iowa school districts.

 

“These funds will help our kids remain safe in emergencies and help keep them away from the harmful effects of alcohol,” Grassley said.  

 

The Alcohol Abuse Reduction Grants Program provides local schools the resources to develop and implement innovative and effective alcohol abuse prevention programs for secondary school students. The Readiness and Emergency Management for Schools Program provides funds to local schools to improve and strengthen their emergency management plans.

 

The grant funds from the U.S. Department of Education will be distributed as shown below.

 

  • - $427,482 to the AllamakeeCommunity School District through the Alcohol Abuse Reduction Grants Program
  • - $232,550 to the Cedar FallsCommunity School District through the Readiness and Emergency Management for Schools Program
  • - $471,428 to the Des MoinesIndependent Community School District through the Readiness and Emergency Management for Schools Program
  • - $137,070 to the Maple Valley Community Schools through the Readiness and Emergency Management for Schools Program
  • - $396,673 to the MaquoketaCommunity School District through the Alcohol Abuse Reduction Grants Program
  • - $225,385 to the Sigourney Community School District through the Alcohol Abuse Reduction Grant Program
