WASHINGTON — Senator Chuck Grassley said today that three counties in Iowa have received a contiguous disaster designation from Secretary of Agriculture Ed Schafer due to the severe flooding that occurred in 2008.
This designation makes farmers eligible to be considered for low-interest emergency loans from the Farm Service Agency. The Farm Service Agency will consider each application on its own merit by taking into account the extent of losses, security available and repayment ability. Local Farm Service Agency offices can provide affected farmers with further information.
"This designation will help farmers in Allamakee, Clayton and Dubuque counties get back on their feet after this summer's severe weather," Grassley said. "I encourage all those eligible to apply."
The following three counties were declared contiguous disaster counties: Allamakee, Clayton and Dubuque.
