WASHINGTON—Senator Chuck Grassley today said that the Department of Transportation's Federal Highway Administration has released $1,442,720 to the Iowa Department of Transportation. These projects were included in the fiscal 2009 Omnibus Appropriations bill.
"These funds will help improve safety, accessibility and efficiency on Iowa's highways," Grassley said. "I've been waiting for the day that I could drive across Iowa on a four-lane Highway 20. This bring us one step closer to that. Providing sound infrastructure for Iowa's businesses will help grow our economy and reduce congestion on our highways."
The U.S. Department of Transportation will distribute the funds as shown below.
· Fort Madison will receive $889,200 to help construct a new interchange at the intersection of the U.S. 61 Fort Madison bypass and County Road J40 west of Fort Madison.
· Iowa Department of Transportation will receive $533,520 to help with construction-related activities; including planning and design of make U.S. 20 from the Sac- Calhoun County line to Moville four lanes.
