WASHINGTON – Chuck Grassley said today that the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Office of Rural Development has awarded $163,000 to Community Health Centers of Southeastern Iowa, Inc. and the Columbus Junction Medical Clinic through the Community Facility Grant Program.
These funds will be used to complete the new medical clinic in Columbus City. This clinic will replace the one destroyed in the June 2008 flood.
“The historic floods of 2008 took away many vital public facilities, like the medical clinic,” Grassley said. “This funding will help ensure the community is able to access medical care.”
According to the USDA, Community Facility Grant funds may be used to construct, enlarge, or improve community facilities for health care, public safety, and community services.
Each year, thousands of local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals and state agencies apply for competitive grants and loans from the federal government. The funding is then awarded based on each local organization or individual’s ability to meet criteria set by the federal entity.
