$287,500 for Iowa from the U.S. Department of Labor

WASHINGTON - Senator Chuck Grassley today said that the U.S. Department of Labor has awarded a $670,085 competitive grant to Goodwill Industries/Wall Street Mission in Sioux City through the YouthBuild competitive grant process.

"These funds will help provide education, experience, and training for these young adults," Grassley said.  "The skills taught by the YouthBuild program should stick with them as they strive to become the leaders of tomorrow."

YouthBuild provides job training and educational opportunities for at-risk youth ages 16-24 while constructing or rehabilitating affordable housing for low-income or homeless families in their own neighborhoods through the Siouxland Habitat for Humanity.  Youth split their time between the construction site and the classroom, where they earn their GED or high school diploma, learn to be community leaders, and prepare for college and other postsecondary training opportunities.  YouthBuild includes support such as a mentoring, follow-up education, employment, and personal counseling services; and participation in community service and civic engagement.
