$370,034 to the Governor’s Office of Drug Control Policy

WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley today said that the U.S. Department of Education has awarded a $370,034 competitive grant to the Governor's Office of Drug Control Policy in Des Moines through the Grants for Coalitions to Prevent and Reduce Alcohol Abuse at Institutions of Higher Education Program.

"These funds will help prevent and reduce alcohol abuse by college students in Iowa," Grassley said.

According to the U.S. Department of Education, the Governor's Office of Drug Control Policy will use the money to help lead a coordinated effort to reduce 30 day alcohol use and binge drinking on college campuses by using a multi-phased strategic approach to enhance and expand the capacity of the Alliance of Coalitions 4 Change, a statewide coalition to prevent and reduce alcohol use among college-age students.

Each year, thousands of local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals and state agencies apply for competitive grants from the federal government.  The funding is then awarded based on each local organization or individual's ability to meet criteria set by the federal entity.
