WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley today announced that the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs has awarded two grants totaling $86,500 to Iowa through the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program and the State Victim Assistance Academy Initiative.
“These funds will go to programs to keep drugs off of Iowa streets as well as provide resources to those programs that help victims of crime,” Grassley said.
The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program allows states and local governments to support a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime and improve the criminal justice system.
The State Victim Assistance Academy Initiative Program enhances the capability of victim service providers to better respond to the needs and rights of all victims of crime.
The funds will be distributed from the U.S. Department of Justice as shown below.
v Iowa Organization for Victim Assistance in Des Moines will receive a $60,000 grant through the State Victim Assistance Academy Initiative Program to help provide comprehensive, academically based, fundamental education and training to victim assistance providers, victim advocates, criminal justice personnel and allied professionals that routinely deal with crime victims.
v Woodbury County and Sioux City will receive and share a $26,500 grant through the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program to help continue the operations of the Tri-State Drug Task Force by funding the salaries and benefits of officers in the task force in order to continue the successful identification, investigation and prosecution of multiple drug trafficking operations.
