Grassley Internship Applications Due October 15

WASHINGTON — Senator Chuck Grassley today encouraged young Iowans interested in government to apply for internships in his Washington, D.C., Cedar Rapids, Council Bluffs, Davenport, Des Moines, Sioux City and Waterloo offices for the upcoming spring semester. Applications for the spring session, which runs from January to May, are due on October 15.  Many colleges and universities recognize these internships for college credit.

"Internships are a good opportunity for college students and new graduates to gain work experience while learning about the legislative branch of the federal government," Grassley said.  “Working in a Senate office can enhance a college education and make students more competitive job applicants when they graduate.”

Interns in Grassley's office assist permanent staff members in the administrative, legislative, and press departments as well as Grassley's committee staff.  A few examples of intern responsibilities include assisting Grassley with scheduling, helping constituents with questions, giving Capitol tours and researching topics related to current issues.

Grassley encourages students of all areas of study to consider the value of learning more about the federal government and, in particular, the process of representative government.

Application forms for internships are available on his Senate website, the placement offices of many Iowa colleges and universities, as well as Grassley’s Iowa office locations. Due to security-related delays in mail delivery to U.S. Senate Office Buildings, all internship applications should be faxed to 202/224-6020.

For more information on all internship opportunities please contact Josie Rundlett, Grassley’s intern coordinator, at 202/224-3744.
