WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley today announced that the U.S. Department of Education has awarded three grants totaling $1,194,652 to Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs; Northeast Iowa Community College in Calmar; and the Eastern Iowa Community College District, which is comprised of Clinton Community College in Clinton, Muscatine Community College in Muscatine and Scott Community College in Bettendorf, through the Strengthening Institutions Program.

According to the Department of Education, the Eastern Iowa Community College District will receive $394,791; Iowa Western Community College will receive $399,994; and Northeast Iowa Community College will receive $399,867 to improve academy quality, institutional management, and fiscal stability.

Each year, thousands of local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals and state agencies apply for competitive grants and loans from the federal government.  The funding is then awarded based on each local organization or individual’s ability to meet criteria set by the federal entity administering the funds.
